From where I see it, the PS3 had a worse launch, but a better post-launch period. Using Metacritic as a flawed guide, we can see that the Wii U had 17 "Good" games in 2012, as opposed to the PS3's 12. That's an obvious difference. Even worse for the PS3 was that two of the Wii U titles were NintendoLand and NSMBU, both of which can be considered huge games.
However, going into 2007/2013, the PS3 got Sonic 06, Virtua FIghter 5, Tekken 5, Sports Games, Motorstorm, Virtua Tennis, Oblivion, and Splinter Cell. Not all of those games were good, but they were notable releases. The Wii U, in contrast, gets nothing until March, when it gets a late Spider-Man port, a Racing game, the ultimate edition of a Wii game, and one actual notable title likely to sell well. And going into mid-2007, the PS3 got MLB, The Darkness, Rainbow 6, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Super Stardust, Madden, and Warhawx. Once again, not a lot of exclusives, but there was support. The Wii U is getting 1st party titles and maybe The Wonderful 101.
