Not all of Metal Gear Solid acts as a sequel to Metal Gear. MGS3 and Peace Walker are prequels. Metal Gear Solid expands upon Metal Gear, it's the same series and the plots directly overlap.
I think "Solid" was added because of the drastic change in gameplay from 2D to 3D.
"Revengence" was added to emphasis a very style of gameplay and game. You can't look at MGR as a MGS game, that's what I'm saying, how can you argue that?
I don't care what you call it, a canon or a sidestory, it's not a main series MGS game. Do you consider Metal Gear Ac!d a main series Metal Gear game? No, and this isn't either. I know it affects the plot more then say Resident Evil CV, but it's still not a steath game like MGS is known for. This is Halo Wars to Halo, the plot is still relevant, but it's not a main series entry.
It doesn't matter if you played MGS2 or 4, you'll pick up the plot in rising just fine. It's all about slashing.

Prequels and sequels are the same thing just taken in a different direction, one goes backwards in time while the other goes forward in time.
I didnt say MGR is the same as MGS gameplay wise, I'm saying its tied to it storyline wise and that people refuse to count it as canon.
Metal Gear Ac!d is non-canon - not even a side story, its based on a alternate timeline/world. Metal Gear Rising is a main line game part of the Metal Gear series the same way Metal Gear Solid is a mainline title of the Metal Gear series.
These are the canon and non-canon games They kept the Solid Monicker cause of the gameplay despite the fact that you play as Big Boss/Naked Snake in MGS3, Peace Walker, Portable Ops and the upcoming Ground Zeroes while you play as Solid Snake/Old Snake in MG, MG2, MGS1, MGS2, and MGS4.
The last statement is just you dont want to admit the storylines interact with each other and yes it does matter to a certain extent. Not telling you to not buy it - just gonna have to play through the game without knowing some things Metal Gear universe wise if you have not played Metal Gear Solid 4 at least as far as Rising is considered.
My point is the series is called "METAL GEAR", not "METAL GEAR SOLID".

It was renamed Metal Gear Solid :P If the series is Metal Gear, then how come only non main series Metal Gear Solid games omit the name solid? Ac!d and Rising are not a part of the meain MGS series, even though MGR is canon, it's not a MGS game.
Anyway I'm not arguing that the game is canon or non canon. It's canon, just like Yoshi's Story is canon to the Super Mario World games, but just like Yoshi, MGR is not a Metal Gear Solid game.
Would you consider Yoshi Story a main series Mario game? No, and most people (i imagine) don't consider MGR a main series Metal Gear Solid game. However the world of forums is different from the real world, most people don't put this much thought into games and get games because they look cool (like MGR).
