Just from my experience ... I had many casual friends buy the Wii who normally wouldn't buy a video game console, but this time around none of them are interested in Wii U.
iOS/Android has just changed the consumer electronics radically. The impact of that is like the impact of Batman/Joker to Gotham City ... nothing is the same afterwards.
The thing with casuals is they want a "new fad", they gradually get tired of something no matter how popular it is and want something new, they are not like core players who want Halo/Mario/Uncharted/Pokemon/Zelda/etc. over and over and over again with a token new IP in there now and again.
Wii Sports/Fit and Guitar Hero is yesterday's news to them. Angry Birds and Minecraft and Just Dance is where its at today.
