JWeinCom said: Is there really anything wrong with derailing a thread that's obvious flamebait? I've found it's a pretty effective way to discourage trolling. The troll is denied the satisfaction of becoming the center of attention as he desires. It's funny to see them trying endlessly to win back their thread only to be told "quiet, we're talking about cartoons here". Derailing troll threads is the best way to fight trolling. Oh wait, sorry, I got off topic for a moment. Apple Jacks is my favorite cereal right now, but I kind of go in cycles. I'll buy one until I get sick of it, then move on to the next cereal in the rotation. I really need to go buy some fruity pebbles. Love the texture of that stuff. |
I get where you are coming from but there are rules against derailing threads.
On topic, I live Frosted Flakes and Fruity Pebbles.
|
But why does that rule exist? Certainly, the rule doesn't exist to protect threads like "Is The Wii U A Smelly Turd". Do we enforce rules for the sake of enforcing them, or to actually make the forums a better and more enjoyable place?
On topic, I have Lucky Charms, Cheerios, Cocoa Puffs, and Frosted Flakes in the house. Decisions, decisions.

We do enforce them to make the forums a better place. If all of the OPs were derailed like that, then no one would ever be able to discuss anything. These forums should be a place for people to discuss anything that they want within reason as long as they are civil about it. Is The Wii A Smelly Turd ? thread was locked because of the OP itself and not the discussions about cereal.
Speaking of which...
It's been a while since I have had Lucky Charms. Maybe I should get a box.

The problem i have with this though is that some threads like those should be locked in the first place. It is obvious that that all it is going to be is argueing. I'm cool with people having opinions but I have noticed here lately that some comments or threads are getting away with a lot. People are presenting comments with pure anger and cursing etc and nothing happens to those people. I know this because I report them myself. The thread last night was not breaking any kind of rules so it was fine and i understand that but it was also obvious that he doesnt like the console so he made a thread negative about it. I mean I could make threads like that about any of the 3 and get 100s of comments but i dont. I dont think you guys can really do anything about that situation but I do wish people wouldnt be baited so easily. We all have our own preferences and opinions so people need to stop acting like their opinion is the only one.

You are absolutely right. I flat out refuse to argue with flam baiters and stealth trolls. But I also have a hard time not calling them out for their shady tactics. That's why I posted about cereal. I wanted to show my distaste for the thread without giving any undue respect to it's content.
I've seen so many threads that are negative about MS go completely un-moderated while people have been given official warnings for minor jabs at Sony or Nintendo. I am well aware that the MS fan base is underrepresented on this forum, but I'd like to think that mods can moderate equally without person bias leading them. Unfortunately from what I've seen a Mod who's a Nintendo fan is more likely to moderate a negative Nintendo comment than an obvious anti-Sony or Anti-MS troll. The same goes for a Sony fan Mod. As for MS fan Mods, do they exist on this forum?
Back on topic. Reese's Puffs are awesome. They're like candy and that's how I eat them. No milk, no bowl, no spoon. Right out of the box.

Speaking of that Kantor locked my thread about why you cant trust Sony but left the 2 up saying why you cant trust nintendo and MSFT. Isn't that very interesting? lol It's no wonder why MSFT people dont come to this site.

Damn, that's like a test and the mod team fail. You should write an unbiased review of this forum.
