Wii U does its own thing as a dedicated controller. Vita does it as a secondary controller but is a game console on its own too.
Remote play has been used by Sony since the PSP. It is not just in your house either. You can use it from any internet connection. Remote play is not Cross Controller, asynchronous controller, like the Wii U but Vita can still do that too.
Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(
