I was surprised the controller didn't have Vita's rear touchpad, but thinking about it, guess it would be less useful and more gimmicky than the front one they use.

Please explain. I don't think there is any way to be less useful and more gimmicky than the front touchpad. Currently serves absolutely no purpose.

i think its more related than to the UI, its like using the touchpad on a laptop. also the addition of the thing can really help in building user generated content. littlebigplanet for example would GREATLY benifit from this, also modnation racers and LPB karting, creating tracks on that thing would be awesome.

just pushing the play, create, share campaign alone is worth adding it

A laptop touchpad is mainly controlled with fingers instead of thumbs, but maybe it work like you say, I'd like to see what they think this two point touchpad adds.

Back to the rear touchpad, I think it was added in Vita's case as a way to have touch controls while using standard controls and without obstructing the screen (not sure if games use the rear input for this or not). Adding it to the console serves no purpose since they didn't add a screen to the controller... Shit, just thought that you would have to leg go of the std. controls in other to use this trackpad... wow, still don't know why they haven't used the rear touchpad - guess it just doesn't work.

well as i said, i dont think it will be used in games alot, but more for UI purposes where you dont need to have both thumbs on the analogs, we will have to wait and see
