Honestly I've been expecting this for a long time. I'm actually surprised they Sony didn't do it with the PS3 while MS made a killing with XBLA. I'm sure part of it was that they knew that if they charged it would turn people toward XBL since Sony couldn't do cross game chat. But with the PS4 they can compete on equal footing and charge competitively.
