Actually the newer 3DS games have a way much greater 3D effect, so if you are 6 feet tall and playing with the 3D ON & all the way up, then you should get the regular size one.
Fire Emblem & Crashmo & Dillon's Rolling Western & Luigi's Mansion & Sonic Racing transformed, just to name a very few out of so many.
And 3D is only good for our eyes & brain anyways:

Why would you want to do this?, really dude the 3D effect on the bigger screen on the XL makes the 3D in any game stand out and look sooo much better, so why would you want to limit yourself to such a small screen if giving the choice??.
Also take this from an owner who owned the original 3DS and once i seen the 3DS XL in action traded in my original for the XL right away.
First it feels soo much more better in the hands.
You dont get any more pixalated gfx then on the original 3DS (dont ask me how nintendo does this i have no clue but they do it, you look at a game on the 3DS and the 3DS XL and i can bet you wont notice it being any more pixalated or that)
The 3D looks like 100 times better on the 3D XL screen and the sweet spot for seeing the 3D is not as small on the 3DS XL as it is on the 3DS so you can kinda move it a bit more without losing the 3D effect.
In every sense of the word if your a gamer the 3DS XL is the most definate version of the 3DS and the one everyone should buy!, unless they are worried about pocket size the is no reason you should pick the original over the XL version.

The 3D effect acts like anti-alising and the XL has physical antialiasing which gets even more antialising from the 3D effect.
The XL does have it's 3D look better because the same 3D image is 90% bigger because the 3D screen is 90% bigger, which gives 90% more depth & distance, which is why the depth slider is 90% longer.
And if you read my other post you would see that I mention a similar thing where I talk about Pushmo & Cubic Ninja & Crimson Shroud.
Plus I'm the kind of person who wants to see everything at once.
If you looked at the games I mentioned on a regular size 3DS:

With the 3D ON & all the way up, then you should know what I am talking about, plus the OP user is actually asking which to get, so I had to explain since he or she is not just going straight with the XL.
i wanted to get the XL so bad myself until I saw the newer 3DS games with the 3D ON & all the way up.
@TheKoreanGuy
I forgot to mention that the XL is 3% reflective VS. 12% reflective on the regular size, which makes the XL suitable for playing outdoors during the day time when the sun is out fully.

First of all i want to say to the bolded this is wrong. The 3DS XL uses no more AA then the original games intended or more then the original 3DS, You do know when it comes to AA in pretty much every case its the game that sets the AA level right??.
Also on the 3DS XL screen its not like its so big you cant see the whole screen, in fact you can!!, great news right??. .
You tried using 3 minor games as a reason to buy the 3DS XL over the original but yet you use all the big name games for a reason to get the original 3DS over the XL version, why do this when all them games look so much better on the XL screen?
Really the is no reason imo for anyone to buy the original version of the 3DS over the XL version as the XL version is better in everyway imo.

Well, the bigger titles have a way better 3D effect, and I don't like to hold my 3DS any further away to enjoy the bigger size. I agree the XL is better across the board, excluding pixel density: 22X vs. the XL 194, but the XL has a bigger screen so it doesn't end up looking any different in pixel density, even though the original has much higher.
Anyways I like to see everything at once, so in the theaters I sit further in the back for 3D movies to take in the entire scenery.
