I'm uncertain why we need yet another one of these threads; the same 3 points always come up:
1. The Wii U is not selling too well currently.
2. When games release (Mario, Zelda etc.) it will start to sell well
3. A price cut could also help and will come in-line with other released consoles.
As a bonus point, people may throw in relations to other systems launching or the Dreamcast. So there's the next 100+ comments summed up for you.
Having said that, your actual OP raises some good points, but it's again things we've gone over countless times before. Lack of SW and poor advertising, which lead to confusion, is what has caused this problem.
