AGREE? Is this obvious?

Partly agree. So long as Zelda is good, it will attract core gamers who owned a prior Nintendo console before. It doesn't have to look like a hardcore Zelda like OoT and TP were, Skyward Sword plays excellent, so as long as the game is good, it will attract fans.

However Zelda will attract a lot of casual gamers becase Zelda is a name, and a good game, and therefore a good reason to get a Wii U.

Core gamers WILL care about 3rd party exclusives, I mean remember Resident Evil 4 on Gamecube? That game probably convinced a bunch of core gamers that Gamecube isn't a kiddy system anymore, and probably really helped late life sales. Wii never got a 3rd party exclusive like that.

I think XenoBlade Chronicles 2 will bring in a lot of "core" gamers, especially after XenoBlade 1 did so well, and is not super hard to find.

P.S. 3DS relies on 3rd party support. SMT4, MH4, DQVII, and various other 3DS exclusives are probably bigger console pushers then any Nintendo RPG, except for maybe Fire Emblem. Mario and Mario Kart are obviously bigger system sellers, but 3DS does rely quite a bit on 3rd Party support. If WiiU could get that same support from Japanese developers, I think Wii U could sell really well, even outside of Japan.

e.g. If Final Fantasy XV turnout out to be a WiiU exclusive, it would boost sales like crazy, plus with FFXV exclusive, a lot of other Japanese devs would probably follow suit and not ignore the WiiU like before.
