I'm sorry, but everyone knows you NEVER return broken game systems to the retailer. You always send it to the console manufacturer for repair. All the console companies say that. Nintendo, seeing as they have that rule about locking games to one console, it is especially important if you purchase a broken Nintendo system that you send it to them for repair, that way they will transfer all of your games to the replacement system and ship your system back to you.

Returning to retail is the best option and for ost people the easiest, if you just buy a brand new system you don't want to send it to get repaired, because then you've got a system that has proven itself to be faulty once already, or worse, you get sent a refurb so you just payed full price for a used console.  When people buy things new they want a new and fully working product, not a repair, not a refurb.

The fact Nintendo has taken away this option is terrible.

Most of the time the system is replaced with a new one.  But if it's just a matter of a minor fix and there is no chance of it happening again, why should they not just make the repair and send it back, like nothing ever happened?  What's the difference?

Sony and Microsoft both do it, why is Nintendo expected to do more?

Most consumer electronics products state right on the box in bold letters not to return it to the retailer.  It's a common practice within the industry.  As I said, especially with Nintendo's policy on digital games being what it is (for better or worse), the worst thing you can do is return your system full of digital games to the retailer and get a replacement system, thereby knowingly losing all of your digital content.

Is only bad because of Nintendo, for everyone else it is the easier and best option.  If I buy a new PS3 and it goes wrong, I just take it back and sign my account onto the replacement from the store.

Why would I run to Sony and get a repair or refurb when I can just take it back to the store and get a new fully working system?  It is one of my rights under the Sales of Goods Act, why wouldn't I use this simple and easy method.

If I buy a brand new console, is no reason for me to settle for a repair or refurb.

If that were the case, then there would be no such thing as console repairs.  If no one sends their system to be repaired, and they only return to the retailer, then why do all three of the console companies have full console repair teams and systems in place to do just that?  That doesn't add up to me.
