Nintendo made the WiiU gamepad because they didnt have a better idea - opinion

Or maybe Nintendo wanted to bring something new to console gaming and this is just and added bonus. Personally, i'm very glad they did. Those who don't like it just simply shouldn't buy it. But don't do all this hating.

Nope, Nintendo said it themselves they wanted both the gamers and the casuals unlike the Wii which was basically all casual. They also wanted to tap into the tablet/cellphone market which was tearing into DS sales.
