I kinda wonder if they should've just made the controller an actual tablet. Throw some cheap ARM processors in there and custom version of Android OS + Miiverse, that way you could use it all over the house or take it outside with you.
It'd be more expensive but the "value" would be perceived as higher as you get a console + a mini-tablet all in one for the same price as an iPad.
