Come on though, do you remember what it was like being a Nintendo gamer pre Wii launch on the internet?  I've always loved Sony hardware, but I learned to hate thier fans and management during that time, because they were all so arrogant and sure the PS3 would outsell everything else.  According to them, you were an idiot if you bout a 360 before the PS3 launched, and the Wii was just a kids toy (which switched to a machine for casuals once it actually started doing well.)

Some of the Vita gloating (which I agree was immature and stupid) goes back to that mindset.... once the 3DS didn't get off to a great start, Sony fans started talking about how the Vita would dominate and wrote many 3DS doom threads themselves.

No... just no. You're probably too young to have witnessed the PS1vsN64 or PS2vsGC days. Its not a mindset that Sony fans started as you seem to put it.

I'm almost 31 years old, and I'm talking prelaunch.  No one thought the wii would do what it did then, except the most die hard fans.

Are you really trying to say that Nintendo fans didn't have the stigma of the "uncool" console going all the way back to at least the SNES?  (Sega does what Nintendon't).  You might not have been old enough to remember the advertisements, but Sega started the Nintendo kiddie image, thanks to thier abundance of sports games and uncensored Mortal Kombat and how much "cooler" Sonic was then Mario among other things.  You can actually go back further to Atari and early PC fan boys with the NES (I can dig up some news group postings to support this.)

I also doubt that one picture is why Nintendo was mocked for the rest of the 6th gen.  I also don't have anyway to know when that image was actually made.
