I think the main thing is to a) not to pull another bait & switch like Nintendo did with the Spaceworld 2000 showcase to Wind Waker. At least this time, WW HD is not a game being built from scratch, and we know the new game is being worked on right now.
b) when people get a shiny new console, they want games that show off the tech and make them feel justified in spending hundreds of dollars. I'd imagine even more so for those whose first HD system is the Wii U. Most people want the first Zelda for a console to go all-out graphics wise to really show what the system can do, and any sequel after that is just icing.
