The first time I watched It I didn't get how deep it was, I thought the movie was actually writen by brothers.  When I realized he was actually creating the reality around him as he tried to write the screenplay, while fighting the urge to make "Hollywood trash" it went to a whole other level of awesome.  Looking back on it I should have clued in sooner.  I went in cold not knowing anything about it other then that he made Being John Malkovich which is also a favourite of mine.

It's really a terrific movie.

When you think about the number of great movies in 2002 -- Gangs of New York, Adaptation, City of God, Catch Me if You Can, Talk to Her, Spirited Away (if you count the international release) -- it's absolutely bonkers that Chicago ended up winning the Oscar.

The Oscar, pfff.  Most times I don't really enjoy the picture of the year, not that they aren't almost always very good, but they generally aren't as daring or inventive as I like(just a generalization & my opinion).  I haven't seen Chicago so I can't comment on it.
