I agree, the Wii U really shouldn't be judged until it's been out a year. But people judged the Vita the same way all year long too. People love doom & gloom.

On the other hand, I don't believe the 3DS and Vita are truly competitors either, the 3DS being an inexpensive, light and simple game device for a general audience, and the Vita being a more pricey, but much higher tech device with more hardcore games aimed at the gamer and tech savvy audience. While Vita hardware sales could definitely be higher to expand the user base, software sales are picking up, at least I know in Japan, and it is proving to be a good platform for small-medium third party game developers.
