People need to stop trying to compare Kinect with the legs of an actual system. The thing is an add on like a controller or headset. How many controllers or headsets a year get sold? Few million maybe. Kinect isn't a console. It won't have legs like a console or sell like a console. It is an add on for a certain audience that is optional.
Once people can come to those terms and step back from the ledge we can have an intelligent conversation about it.
