The doom is just kind of a way to stick it to Nintendo fans. Whenever something negative about Wii was said the sales were brought in as its defense. Now that it is having slow weeks and the poor guy is bit down. Everyone wants to go in and give it a few jabs.
How will it do long term is hard to say. It is like trying to predict how would PS3/360/Wii would have do by the end of their generation just based on first 3 months of sales.
