Yeah for one the XBLA market is a bit oversaturated at the moment (and will likely stay like that in 2013). New titles need to be very good and mass appealing at the same time. I'm sure that Minecraft and Trials "stole" some sales of new releases as quite a few of them are underperforming.
It shouldn't be forgotten though that older retail games (of which there are a lot) can be found for $10-$15 and the longer the gen the more cheap games there are.
Would you rather get a game like The Splatters or Borderlands/Mass Effect/Assassins Creed 2 ?
I'm rather surprised that they're kind of pleased with the sales as I recall them to be very low (under 50k).
