if we have 21-24 racers i'll do 3 brackets of 7 or 8 racers (being 1st round and having 22 or 23 racers mean brackets will have one more than the other) and have a top 6! Then with 18 racers in round 2 divid it up into 3 brackets with [1,6][2,5][3,4] and the Top 4 will make having 12 racers! Then divide and have 6 racers into round 3 with [1,4][2,3]! Top 4 in each and final round will have 8racers! If there are 25+ there will have to be 4 brackets no matter what! As of this post i have 20 racers with maybe 2 of them with 50/50 chance of coming and 5 others givin me a decision later this week!

Yeah... no. That's a mess. You need to work towards numbers that suit Mario Kart 7. 18 people, that's an awful number.

It would make much more sense to go with four initial brackets, even if the total number of players has yet to exceed 24. If you have 20+ people, you divide them as evenly as possible across four brackets. It's more of a qualification round and the top 4 of each bracket proceed. In a tournament with 20 players that would mean that you only eliminate one player in each initial bracket. You end up with 16 people going to round 2. Isn't 16 a glorious number? You then split them up evenly: Two #1, two #2, two #3 and two #4 go in each of the two round 2 brackets. The top 4 of each bracket proceed to the final round. Simple and straightforward.

damn, to be honest i didn't want to elimate alot of people! But if 20-24 mean 5 or 6 racers a bracket then have top 4 sounds good! Cuz of the 16 mark making 8 and 8 racers then the final 8! If we get a high 28+ (i dont kno yet since i said people are deciding wheter to come) then i might do an extra round! Ex: 28-30 racers 7 or 8 per bracket (of 4) top 6 will make it leaving 24 then 16 then 8 racers!
