I suggested this, because there's no mathematical fair solution in a tournament with three brackets. You can't divide the winners of three brackets evenly among two brackets and the same goes for #2, #3 and #4. Originally, tbone51 had suggested to run three brackets and have only the top 3 proceed, but nine players is such an awkward number in a game with rooms for up to eight players. Top 5 would have meant 15 players proceed, but that would have resulted in two unbalanced round 2 brackets. So it was top 4. The tournament mode we had was basically the fairest thing that could be arranged, because it should always be as fair as possible for everyone involved. The three winners going into the same round 2 bracket meant that the best players faced each other, but that was offset by having them play against the weakest set of all remaining players. With the top 4 proceeding to round 3, there wasn't really a big chance that the winners of the initial three brackets would get screwed over. On the flipside, the players who finished in #4 in the initial brackets were put up against the best players, but to their benefit, at least one of them was guaranteed to go to the final. So even in the case that they got crushed in round 2, one of them could still make it. But only the best one of them. Bracket 6 consisted of all the middle of the pack players of the initial brackets, so their GP could be expected to be much more competitive than the one of bracket 5. They got none of the weakest players to make things easier for them, but on the flipside, they also didn't have to deal with any of the strongest players. Should tbone51 manage to get enough players for four initial brackets, then the tournament mode will change. With four of each kind (#1, #2, #3, #4) proceeding in round 1, each of the two round 2 brackets will have two of each kind. |
if we have 21-24 racers i'll do 3 brackets of 7 or 8 racers (being 1st round and having 22 or 23 racers mean brackets will have one more than the other) and have a top 6! Then with 18 racers in round 2 divid it up into 3 brackets with [1,6][2,5][3,4] and the Top 4 will make having 12 racers! Then divide and have 6 racers into round 3 with [1,4][2,3]! Top 4 in each and final round will have 8racers! If there are 25+ there will have to be 4 brackets no matter what! As of this post i have 20 racers with maybe 2 of them with 50/50 chance of coming and 5 others givin me a decision later this week!
