You really must stop defending these silly ideals of personal liberty and responsibility and just accept that The State Knows Best.
Freedom is slavery.
Note that this only applies if it's a Western country doing it. In the Middle East, it is imperative that citizens have the right to live their lives free of governmental tyranny and violence.
