The world is currently sinking into economic depression. People are very careful about what they buy. I guess that's why the mature libraries of the HD twins are attractive now.

New consoles are not only going to be more expensive than the Wii U, they also might launch in even worse economic times. Add the diminishing returns of better graphics and they might even be set for disaster.
