After thinking about it, the strategy used by Nintendo with the Gamecube that I think they most need to restore/expand is their second party developer relationships ...

Had Nintendo been able to get Factor 5 and Free Radical to become second party developers, kept Silicon Knights as a second party publisher, and picked up a couple more developers prior to launching the Wii they could have filled a lot of holes in Nintendo's line-up; and likely wouldn't have effectively went out of business.

With the Wii U, if Nintendo had half a dozen second party titles being released in 2013 it would take a lot of pressure off of Nintendo's first party teams to sell the platform.

Free Radical became a useless entity once Halo and COD came out. Time Splitters was a niche shooter and Silicon Knights..well you saw their track record this gen, they just sucked.
