Ocarina of Time is still the definitive Zelda experience, it's the third and last game in the series to take that crown. It is also to this day still the most fun out of all the Zelda games to play, and also the most satisfying.

Later Zelda games, like Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, despite being newer, don't even have as much quality content as Ocarina of Time. Much of the newer Zelda games are bloated with padding-style gameplay, like collecting all sorts of different moon tears with no additional context other than "Collect X-amount to enter dungeon Y"

In fact, the only games in the last 15 years that have really reached the sort of acclaim that Ocarina of Time has reached have been the Super Mario Galaxy games. Ocarina of Time, to this day is still one of the best gaming experiences that can be had.

As for a film reference, you can bring in all the special effects and new directorial techniques of top movies like Terminator 2, Lord of the Rings, and Avatar all you want, while these films may strike high on lists, you're not going to have films that will easily rub out Citizen Kane, Casablanca, or Lawrence of Arabia as being regarded as the greatest films in history.

It's one thing to impress people with new things at the time of release, it is quite another to become a timeless classic, and quite another still to do both; and Ocarina of Time in its time had the sort of explosive impact that has only been seen a small handful of times in the history of the industry, and has also solidified itself as one of the greatest classics of the industry. That is why it consistently tops all time greatest games lists. The DNA of Ocarina of Time is so imprinted on the industry that we see it in some way in most major adventure games released to this day.
