Reasonable people -- including some of the most zealous Nintendo fans -- knew to expect the Wii U not to outsell PS3 & 360 over the Holidays. Sales of a brand-new console and two late-cycle consoles are effectively incomparable, whereas the difference between two consoles (portable or not) both in their first Holiday season is a reasonable comparison.
Seriously, no, the Wii U was NOT "supposed" to outsell PS3 or 360 this month, and everyone but the most disillusioned fanboys knew that. Nintendo knew that. Consider also that Wii U is selling close to Nintendo's expectations, the ones that matter. At the start of the current fiscal year, Sony projected 10 million Vita console sales and 6 million PSP console sales from April 2012 to March 2013. By November (yes, last month!), this projection had be altered to 10 million combined hardware sales between the two consoles. VGChartz numbers currently have their combined sales at something like 3.5 million since the end of March this year.
Wii U is selling about as well as Nintendo expected. Vita is selling dramatically more poorly than Sony expected. Their expectations are more important than those of random fans on an internet forum, right?
