My take: The Wii U is selling as good as many other launches of supply constrained consoles and it can only be judged like for like compared to other consoles with a similar supply situation. We don't know for instance if Nintendo had say twice the supply of the Wii that it would have sold twice as much as the Wii U or if the Wii would have simply sold 5% more. All we know is the upper bounds on demand and not the demand compared to other consoles.

Given that the Wii was sold out basically through 2007 and still relatively tough to find even in 2008, I would say its fair to assume that Nintendo perhaps could've sold double the Wii systems in 2006 that they had at launch.
