A few usually means 3-5 and several usually means 6-9. Above that and you really need to start getting specific. When it comes to months if it is 12 or more than you need to start looking at using years.

What number range would you attach a decent amount to?  I use the word decent a lot.  To me the word decent is better than average (pretty good).

That depends on the item in question. A decent amount of M&Ms is different than a decent amount of oranges. Intended use also changes the intended quantity.
