Cross chat is a hardware and software issue. The PS3 cannot handle it because of their hardware, therefore, their online is already pretty dead on equal already. Cross platforming has allready proven to be a dead end. MS tried it with some titles like Lost Planet Colonies, Shadowrun, Universe at War, etc.  The PC gamers have an unfair advantage.

Sony and Valve changed that with Portal 2. Gabe Newell has been trying to get through to Microsoft but they seem ignorant to his cause.

Its called a new beginning. Before that Gabe Newell was talking a lot of crap about the PS3.

Because of Sonys acceptance of the reality that online as a service needs to expand beyond a closed community, the PS3 (but more so the PS4) will excell.
