In Japan, actually I don't think it's impossible. The Wii was big in Japan for it's two years or so, but really declined after 2008 big time.
Wii U with it's Japan-friendly quasi-portable nature of the console probably fits the Japanese household best and could do well there. Then again I could be wrong entirely.
