They dont need it to work perfect. Lets say nextgen last 5 years from the time the last console launches. we could be into 2017-18 by then you telling me most peoples internet connections wont be good enough to steam gaming by then i will tell you your wrong imo. Also not all gaming will need to be steamed as you will still be able to buy your games and download them or buy them in a shop and install them. But you will only be able to play them using Sony, Ms or Nintendos service. Kinda like how steam and orgin and ubisofts stores kinda work atm on pc. Trust me the console makers will make more from you if they can get you to sign up to their service, Onlive gaiki etc was all just tests. The next consoles you will be playing will all come with an online service for steaming games in some form i bet you. so in other words the next consoles will be a test bet to see how many signs up. Console makers are going to kill the consoles as they are!. Its why they want to make them more and more like pc's so when it comes to people using Xbox pc type console or sonys pc type console (Really pc's with sonys or MS's name on it, or maybe MS will just become the OS developer for the nextgen consoles to stop Linuz from becoming the number 1 console PC type OS. people will be ok with that!. Look how much slack MS got last gen for using PC parts in the xbox. "Its only a PC with a custom os etc etc" Why are the console makers getting no slack for doing this now?. Ill tell you why cos people have accepted for consoles to use off the shelf custom parts instead of making all new parts now. Like nextgen they will except consoles pretty much being the same but running another OS and the gen after that they will accept the PC set top boxes from makers such as sony, Valve, Samsung etc etc. |
You said that cloud gaming would replace powerfull console hardware. I'm saying that won't happen for a long LONG time. Not just a couple years. I'm talking about decades. Sure it's going to be a part of next gen just like it is a part of this gen, but half of America lives in locations with slow internet. It will require billions if not trillions of dollars, hundreds of thousands of workers, and many years to lay the cable needed to bring the kind of speed required for HD lag free streaming games.
