You guys make it sound like gamecube was a failure. It was still very profitable for nintendo. And it won't be specifically nintendo attacking casuals next gen. Microsoft have proven they are making a heavy push for casuals. In fact they look to be pushing harder then nintendo currently are.

Yes, but they are doing what Sony did to increase the market of gaming. They increased the multimedia capabilities of the console, so casuals can have a device where they can do anything they want. I could've bought a Blu Ray player, but I didn't because I have a PS3 and when I need games for it I can play it. When I want streaming I've got that too and I've even ordered Pizza with my PS3 and saved my pictures. Microsoft did the same (except the Blu Ray) and the Kinect is becoming like a long time multimedia helper, but I think the Kinect 2 will take longer to gather the audience. Nintendo is late to the technological party, but if they are doing a gimmick that isnt a fad now the casuals wont take to it as well because they can use their Ipad for that. The Wii U is a love letter to the new Wii owners who stuck around to gaming with Nintendo again and the core Nintendo fanatics who have been the core for years. Of course Sony and Microsoft will be pushing harder than Nintendo, but again, that has created a stable larger marketshare for gaming.
