I found just over 20 sites that received the e-mail from Sony... the PR in the Sony site is published after the impresss give the news to the world.

I only found 1 other source and that is Playstation LifeStyle, which seems to be the origin of this hoax.

There is no press statement. If there was, the sales numbers would be mentioned in it.
