If Dreamcast would have lasted, was it even powerful enough to run the high profile multiplats of the time like prince of persia, splinter cell, soul calibur 2, NFS underground?

A great question! I'm going to do a bit of research. BRB!

Edit 1: Based on what I've found out so far, the Dreamcast was about 2/3 as powerful as the PS2, in terms of CPU, GPU, and RAM. However, the Dreamcast was easier to program for, meaning that many DC/PS2 titles looked just as good or better on the Dreamcast. And it wasn't exactly weak either. 2005's PS2 version of Resident Evil 4 required hardware powerful enough to process 1.5 million polygons a second, whereas some Dreamcast games were up to 5 million a second.

So, in theory, the Dreamcast could play at least slightly inferior versions of the latest hits as late as latter 2005. Not too bad. And based on what PC game requirments sites tell me, that means it could definately play Prince of Persia. Still, by around 2002, it would already start showing its age, much like the Wii U probably will circa 2015.
