It seems to be a vicious cycle actually; PS360 fans bashing Wii for it's limitations, generating in Nintendo fans frustration. This in turn takes it form in Vita bashing, and Sony fans retaliate...

The difference is that the Wii U is more vital to nintendo than the vita is to Sony.  After 3 quarters, I have yet to see any material impact of bad vita sales on Sony numbers for their gaming division, Nintendo on the other hand cannot have a repeat of the 3DS launch with the Wii U.

Well, no. Vita might not have a major impact on the finances of Sony as a whole. But they're in much more trouble that the Vita failing. Even if Wii U only sells 20 million copies, Nintendo will make a profit (well, not straight away as we all know) and survive. If PS4 sells 20m copies, will Sony survive like Nintendo will? ANd considering what Sony must have spent on R&D for the Vita I'm quite sure they're eager to make that back...

Again your second sentence doesnt make sense.  The impact of the R&D would have shown up in the numbers like it did for sony in 2006 with its disterous PS3 launch, they lost close to $3 Billion (just in the gaming division) in the two year after it was released due to price cuts and saging sales.  I dont see a -$2 billion print since the Vita was launched (and it has saging sales BUT no price cut, thats the difference). And we are not talking about the PS4, just the Vita and Wii U, try to confine it to those two things.  Nintendo mentioned they are selling the console at a loss but 1 software sale will make the transaction profitable, while I take Reggies comments at face value, some clearer numbers would be better.

The R%D probably showed up; just not in negative figures. It could simply have meant that they didn't post more earnings that they could have. If you get what I'm getting at? I think Wii U will prove to be a better investment than Vita was.
