PSAS actually plays very different and has a lot of merit on it's own. Read the reviews and you'll see that most of the one's that drop points for the Smash inspiriation still agree with that. PSAS can be considered in the same genre but not the same game. Like Ninja Gaiden vs God of War.
Dante's Inferno litteraly felt like a God of War reskin. It didn't get as much heat as PSAS did because GoW isn't as big a series as Smash.
