The 360 is still 1.7 million units ahead, and PS3 has closed the gap 1.5 million units in 2012 so far. However, with Halo out, CoD next week, Black Friday the week after, and the following 4 weeks typically favoring the 360 substantially more then PS3, 360 should widen the gap by aat least 500k. That means, best case, PS3 narrowed the gap by 1 million this year (2012), and will be 2.2 million units behind. The two year prior the gap was only cut by 500k or so (and it probably will be the same this year, it will unlikely be a 1 million sales gap), so at this rate, PS3 can only top 360 in 3-4 years time.
However this gen is dying, chances are PS3 will have better legs due to sales in Latin America and such, so maybe 2 years, best case.
