The ultimate response: When Nintendo made the Wii, a lot of hardcore gamers were complaining and said that they do not want change. They wanted a traditional controller for all of their games. When Nintendo made the Wii U, they delivered just that, exactly what they have been asked to do. The only people who have the right to complain about the Wii U Pro Controller are the people who really liked the Wii and the Wiimote/Nunchuk combo and now see Nintendo going back to an old style controller. Are you a Wii fan? |
Am I a fan? I don't know. Can't say I LOVE it now, cause since Zelda SS came out I've only played like 2-3 hours of Mario Kart Wii, but it's the first console I bought this generation and I have quite a big library of games (including some limited edition versions). I hate playing FPS games with a gamepad and love playing them with the Wiimote (Metroid Prime Trilogy <3 ). I also prefer Zelda (not just SS, but TP as well) with the Wiimote. Also, I play MK with my wheel. Does that make me a Wii fan or not?

My priorities are actually obvious and reasonable, you just fail to notice it. I'm not criticising anyone (note: ANYONE) for adopting an existing standard. Putting a D-pad and two analogs? Can you seriously imagine a successful gamepad without it for this gen (I'm taking motion controllers out of this, just talking about a standard gamepad)? No! These features are mandatory for a gamepad nowadays. If someone released a pad without analogs or a D-pad, gamers and game developers would be like "wtf"? Both gamers and game developers EXPECT this to be on a gamepad, because these are features that are necessary to control current games. That's why I'm ok with both MS and Nintendo taking the idea of such a configuration from Sony and that's why the arrangement of those on the pad doesn't really matter to me. That's why I'm ok with almost everyone giving us analog triggers and I'm actually disappointed that the Wii U Pro Controller doesn't have them (and the Wii U Gamepad, if it also doesn't have those - don't know if it does). Because nowadays these are mandatory features (apart from the colours and letters on buttons - here, for the third time, so you don't have to point it out again).
On the other hand, a given shape of a controller is not something that's necessary like that. A controller doesn't have to have the X360 pad shape in order to work, operate all games and not be outright ingnored by the gamers/game developers. It's not a mandatory feature. That is why I'm criticising Nintendo. It's just so stupid, low and simply humiliating to copy something that you DON'T HAVE TO copy. There is no need or excuse for that, that's not a necessary standard, you can show some creativity here without being punished for it. And this is my point and this is why I think Nintendo deserves bashing for this particular controller. They have always been innovating and have always been so proud about bringing the revolution. They even had their own unique line of controllers and what do they do now? C'mon! I'm gonna say this again, they could and should have done better! This is just wrong and they should never do this again.
And once again personally to Chandler - from your replies I see that you already know you're wrong, but your fanboyism doesn't allow you to admit it. Fine by me. Still, it would be nice if you stopped changing the meaning of my words or claiming I said the exact opposite of what I did, cause it's just plain old sad... It may make you feel better about yourself, but you're never going to win any argument like that, so stop doing this.
Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!
My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/
