Was this ethernet dongle thing ever an issue?

Wait, let me rephrase: Was it ever an honest problem?

For competitive gamers of certain genres running wired is a must.  Racers it isn't really a problem with, is mainly shooters where it matters.  Wireless connections are the bane of shooter games.  In racers when connection drops behind a bit games tend to predict where you would be, for a racer this is easy to get right since you'll probably be right ahead of where you just were, for shooters though you could be firing, aiming one place, turning, moving etc etc all at once, impossible to predict.

Not to mention people assume that their wireless/wired differences are the same everywhere else in the world. There are still millions with DSL. That's horribad speeds on top of terrible ping. (difference between my wireless and wired set-up is only about 50ms thankfully, but it's about 90ms in my living room where my PS3 and Wii are).
