Be careful current and soon to be Wii U owners. The console being shut down during initial update can brick the console.

The U in Wii U stand for update, this console is not for games its for people that love updates.

The games are being update to connect a patch for online.  I had one for Nintendoland and Black Ops, but both were fast downloads.  No, almost every game that I've bought for my PS3 also needs updates before the first play and those have taken as long as a hour.

Agreed, and the same goes for XBox 360.  Every time I pop a new game, or one that I haven't played in a while, it has to update first.  Funny that there are people who want to pretend that this is something new to consoles or a unique annoyance to Wii U.
