They are on the rise and have been since 2008, it was only the late and rough launch that hurt them.

In which year have they outsold Microsoft in North America? 2009? 2010? 2011? 2012?

Ever since Kinect launched it seems to me like the 360 has pulled ahead in this regard.

And I just see MS gaining in Europe as more times go on and the brand becomes more established.

Of course Sony's influences wasn't going to go overnight, with the PS2, they had virtually 100% of Europe. Now that's way down.

So only North anmerica matters? Sales and money elsewhere is meaningless? Thats your argument? They have WW ask anyone what thye would rather WW lead or Nort america lead? Sony is getting bigger in europe and developing countries.

North America is traditionally seen as the biggest gaming market in the world, so sure, why shouldn't that matter the most?

Is PS3 on pace to sell more than the PS2 in Europe? If the answer is no, then your statement that "Sony is getting bigger in europe" is patently false.

They've declined significantly in every market the PS2 was in, not just in marketshare, but in overall units sold.

Europe + japan, plus rest of the world is as important as NA as seen by PS3 outselling 360 every year despite loding NA. Also I never said it wasn't important I was just pointing out the lunacy of your argument in pointing out NA but conveniently leaving out everything else. NA is not the onloy region that matters.

Also, what goes from 1 gen doesnt always translate to the next, ask nintendo and the n64 and gamecube, so its really irrelevant.

You're right, one generation doesn't translate into another generation, but that's true of Sony too. They very well could be routed by Microsoft next generation if MS for a variety of factors, some of which are evident even now.

But really my feeling on this has less to do with Sony at all.

It's just the type of company that Microsoft is -- they're a predator. Especially one that has a wounded opponent ... that's MS' speciality. MS can be beaten if you keep them to the outside and hide weakness, but once they taste blood ... their history has been one where they usually go for the kill.I don't even say that with any real pride in the company, it's a bit of a slimy quality that they have, but that's definitely Microsoft.

Both Sony and Nintendo deserve blame in letting Microsoft get so much of a foothold in the industry to begin with as both are guilty of being sloppy. Now they are going to have to deal with it.

I don't even think MS' focus next cycle is to "beat" Sony, what they need to do is to get the living room locked down before Apple and Google get there. Sony just happens to be the incoming roadkill thats in their way to getting where they actually want to be, so they are going to have to be dealt with.

I think people are going to be surprised too when 720 is unveiled, it will be far more than just a gaming platform.
