I don't think they can, they seem to be aiming somewhere in the middle and might end up falling short on both ends, especially when the competition arrives in full.
If there's a wildcard in the 8th generation, an Apple of Samsung console for instance, I think the casuals will be eaten alive by those.
Nintendo is in a tricky position right now, they need to adapt to the modern market all the while maintaining their focus and unique style.
But if anyone can pull if off, its them, they've been at it for around three decades.
