What happened to Nintendo between the SNES and the Wii? What went wrong~

Even though they made some competing products JVC still wouldn't make a competing console to the 3DO.  I also forgot Pioneer and their lesser known Pioneer LaserActive which was late to the generation but with a Laserdisc format.
