Who is to say that outdated is necessarily bad? Just because CoD is newer and currently hot, we assume that it's inherently better?

People really stop comparing everyting to CoD, iron sights aren't even close to being a CoD inspired feature and everytime I hear it I just assuming the defence of Halo just comes from inexperience with many other FPS games. Iron sights are one of many features added to FPS games over the years that has improved gameplay, allowing for more balance options and more depth of gameplay. FPS games never used to have reloading, magazine sizes, bullet spray, gravity affecting bullets, bullet travel time, recoil, scope sway, crouching or prone, damage scaling depending where hit an enemy and many more features including iron sights. They've all made FPS games better and CoD never created any of them.
Halo 4 is missing a basic feature that countless games have proved adds to gameplay (focus on 'adds', because every game with irons sights let you shoot like Halo 4 does still). Halo 4 is missing a major feature, it isn't taking a different approach.

I like how you ignore everything I've postulated previously. Nice touch. Need I start repeating that?

You typed a lot but said very little, you certainly didn't address the point. Modern combat mechanics are part of nearly every game, CoD, BF, MoH, Resistance, Killzone and so forth, pretty much every popular FPS title. This includes those mechanics in Halo, however, Halo does not have the combat mechanics most modern games have.
Adding Iron sights isn't going to radically change Halo 4 gameplay which is the argument people trying to hide behind, is just a basic feature of modern FPS titles that gives extra options during gameplay. Games that use Iron sights to give a steadier aim and so forth have chosen to do that, there are FPS games out there that have Iron sights but it doesn't change the mechanics of shooting at all and thus doesn't change the gameplay.
Halo 4 is missing a basic feature, not because it is preserving gameplay, but because it just outdated in that mechanic.
