I'm pretty sure that most would say Super Mario 3 or Super Mario 64 depending on whether they prefer 2D or 3D Mario.  Most are not reviewers...

In that case I would have to go with Super Mario World mysefl. Back then unless you had a book the size of the Catholic bible you would not just be able to find where all the secret were unless you searched and searched and searched. Plus the star worlds were actually difficult. Damn that balloon thingy!

That's a great game as well, and you're right about the secret areas being very tough to find.
