Did they do it maliciously or with the best intentions? Obviously they did not intend harm. I like to think my parents always have my best interests in mind. In fact I happen to know why my parents chose circumcision. They didn't take the issue lightly or do it just because that's what Catholics do. They talked about and decided that because my father is circumcised it would be best if I didn't grow up thinking I'm different than him. I think that's a decent reason. I doubt I'll choose circumcision for my future sons, but it's not like I'm crippled or have any negative side effects. I don't feel mutilated and I don't think my parents made a bad decision.
My parents also allowed a hernia surgery when I was an infant without my consent. I don't feel mutilated by that scare either. Some people pierce their baby girls' ears before they can give consent. I wouldn't do that, but I don't think it's inherently wrong either. Parents make thousands of choices for their children throughout their lives and they do it for their children's own good.
What I'd like to know is why do so many people on this forum without circumcised penises want to change 2000+ years of tradition? Why care what's in other men's pants?
