For years people have been blaming 3rd parties for choosing to make their market on the PS3 and the 360 platforms rather than the obvious gen leader, the Wii.
However, let's take a ride on numbers lane.

and global:

So, it would seem like the HD twin market, which buys very different games than the Wii market, was the bigger market all gen long.
Go figure.
FAQ because questions are being repeated in the thread. Knowledge is power, the more you know:
Question 1 - Why combine the twins against 1 console? It's biased!
dark_gh0st_b0y said: HD twins!? wtf, i though Xbox360 and Ps3 are considered to be two different products!? who said that Wii leads them both combined?
I've explained this many times in the thread. You guys should understand what this is meant to show.
The twins together make up a market that the Wii does not have access to, as we know from the sales power of the multi-plats of top quality on all 3 platforms.
In the thread, we're debating why that is so, it's not even a question as to it being that way, but more as to why.
Question 2 - Why not just say it never reached 50%!
the_dengle said: You could've saved some time and simply reminded everyone that the Wii never hit 50% marketshare. That is exactly what you were pointing out, and it's a well-known fact.
I already explained this a few times in the thread, the curve was there to show the progression throughought, whether close to 50% or not, and at what point. More info never killed anyone.
If I show people that it's never hit 50%, or if I tell them as you prescribe, which is more effective in proving a point?
Question 3 - Does this mean that MS and Sony won against Nintendo?
runqvist said: So ms and sony won in both sales and games categories. Maybe this is the way of next gen, too.
Nope, that's not the point.
It's not that MS and Sony won, it's that Nintendo lost that market. It's essentially what Nintendo didn't get.
