I can't stand this argument. I already own a 500 gig external, and I think most people do own externals if only for backup purposes. Why would I want to pay more for my console to have a built-in HDD when I could just use my external? And if my space runs out in a few years, I'll probably be able to buy a new HDD that's double the size of my current one for half the price I paid for it.
Most Wii U owners probably won't even use the 8 gigs in the standard model.
