What is going on here? Are there really so many great games for iOS? I don't have an iPad or iPhone, and I haven't played any of these. The World Ends With You for iPad is 7 points higher than the DS original? Are these games really that great? Or are critics judging them based on their novelty? Or maybe they are judged based on a different set of rules compared to games on dedicated gaming platforms? I have no idea.

It's the same as with indie games on any platform. Lower standards are applied when it comes to scoring them.


Yeah, I agree with that.  In fact, a lot of people have weird standards when it comes to reviewing a specific game.  Diablo 3 got a low score due to high standards.  Resident Evil 6 got a low score due to high standards and certain expectations.  A lot of handheld games now are being reviewed at the same standard as console games.  Ports get reviewed on the standard that it should be different than the original, so it gets a lower score than the original.
